Beware of These Scams
At First Missouri Credit Union, we are always on alert for fraud that may affect our members. We have noticed in increase in the following scams:
Mobile deposit fraud
Victims are approached by an online friend, who asks them to open an account and provide the login information, promising to send the target a direct deposit. The ‘online friend’ is actually an imposter, and the deposit bounces.
Please don’t give your account information to anyone not listed as an own on your account!
Cash app scam
Fraudsters hack people’s social media accounts, then reach out to their friends list through a message, pretending to be the person who was hacked. The scammer says they know someone who works for the Cash app who can help the friend ‘get rich’ by adding a zero to any transaction. If the friends send $150 to the imposter, they will get back $1,500.
If your social media account is hacked, please change your password immediately and notify your connections that your account has been compromised. If you see any suspicious messages or posts on your feed, flag them as scams and delete them from your page.
Finally, check to see if any new apps or games have been installed on your account. You’ll need to delete these, since they may be another attempt to compromise your account.
